Pelican Johnny

“Originally from Richmond, VA, Pelican Johnny, is a DIY Americana
folk-punk one-man band now based in Austin, Texas who has previously
spent his musical career playing drums – recording and touring – in a
diverse array of bands from around the country. Now on his own as a
solo singer/songwriter/multi-instrument multi-tasker, he employs the
same energy in his lone “hermit-driven” performances. Through his
raw, energetic, and quirky live shows, he avoids the background-noise
stereo-type that solo acoustic acts many times fall into. No backing
tracks, drum machines, or loop pedals needed. His unique presentation
combined with hook-laden songs is steadily winning audiences over and
helped earned him a spot as a Top 10 finalist in the 2011 Norfolk Sea
Level Emerging Artist event. “I like songs that don’t have to grow
on you. Songs that get ya on the first listen, ya know?” He has
shared the stage with folk, rockabilly, honky-tonk, straight-ahead
rock’n’roll and punk bands – even Joe Buck (of Hank Williams
III’s band) as well as Joe Jack Talcum (of The Dead Milkmen), Tim
Barry, Phillip Roebuck, The Punknecks and more.
