Carlos Castaneda Art Display
Mar 4 @ 4:00 pm – Apr 15 @ 12:00 pm

Carlos Castaneda’s intricate and fine-tuned craft came about after spending several years restoring upholstery in classic vehicles.  Castaneda decided to branch out and try something rare and challenging by creating art with various textures of vinyl and fabric materials.  Using his fabric and needlework knowledge, he began to create one of a kind wall art, seat benches, purses, bars, restaurant doors, gear knob covers, and many other original pieces.  All of Castaneda’s pieces are unique to his innovative craft.  Specific to his wall art, Castaneda installs a foam backing before he frames his pieces which creates a stunning 3D effect. Steady handed talent is obvious in everything he creates.  Castaneda’s beautifully weird designs will have you caught with wonder and admiration.

The Third Rail Series presents: WAVE TRAIN unofficial SX showcase
Mar 16 @ 12:00 pm – 9:00 pm

No photo description available.

The first season of the Third Rail live series, organized by author and sound artist Thomas Bey William Bailey, was introduced in fall of 2018 at the Cherrywood coffeehouse in Austin. The aim was to present a weekly home for challenging electronics-based composition and improvisation, and to place it in an outdoor environment where the live sound would merge with the surroundings and be animated by having the environment “communicate back.”

Now, running parallel with SXSW 2019, Thomas has decided to re-ignite this series by bringing together some of the most consistently unique electronic performers in the Austin area for an all-day show of force. From the late morning until 11pm you will have the chance to immerse yourself in music from all across the spectrum of new electronic art. “Wavetrain” (a nod to a composition of that name by seminal Sonic Arts Union composer David Behrman, as well as yet another nod to the light rail which runs through Cherrywood’s backyard) will be a celebration of all the possibilities inherent in this culture, and also of creative independence in general. Expect intriguing self-made instrumentation, phantasmatic sounds, tactile drones, playful chaos, 31 different flavors of tone color…Wavetrain will be the place for the sonically adventurous on March 16, so do not miss it!

Kid Show: Oh Antonio
Mar 17 @ 10:30 am

In 1982, Antonio met Grapes, his first Imaginary Friend. Grapes and Antonio had several adventures together. They shared secrets, sang songs and Grapes always had a chair at the dinner table.
Sadly, Antonio grew up, got a degree, found a corporate job and forgot about Grapes.
Then one day, Antonio felt low. Climbing corporate culture and recovering from an embattled relationship shifted his heart. Looking for reprieve, Antonio rediscovered his love of music. He longed to smile and yearned for others to do the same. He wrote silly songs focused on hope, love and understanding.
As time moved on, Antonio’s found others who wanted to join the fun!
